RE: New camper - hate the generator.

With four 6-volts and an inverter you will go days without the need for a gen. If you were to top it off with a solar panel you would only need the gen for a/c if you were not plugged in.

RE: New camper - hate the generator.

Jim, I cut the plastic box out, keeping the door. Installed two rv style vents with tubing to the boxes. Installed 4 6-volts in two boxes behind door. All of this was out of the way. I installed a Xantax 2000 inverter clear back in store compartment. I think I could have gotten the inverter behind the wall where the screened hole is but I hauled a trailer so space was not an issue. All this took not much more space then the original battery setup.
In general, as far as the small Onan's go there is nothing that will make one of those run like a 5500 gold or a honda/yamaha 3000 they are nasty for the user and your poor neighbors (if you have any).

RE: New camper - hate the generator.

I would never buy one of the current small Onans. It was a waste of money. You could install a large solar panel, 2000 watt inverter and as many 6-volts as possible and have a way better setup for the same or cheaper.

RE: Toy Hauler Foor Plan

Just order a Toy hauler with no beds and then build your own office in the garage. Skies the limit because of the weight a toy hauler can carry.

RE: Diesel prices in Canada?

I made the trip to Prince George and back. I spent over $1100 in fuel. Some of my fill ups were over $180.00 Kind of turned me off from pulling a long way again. Feels like a rip off knowing I'm paying about $.72 every mile I drove.
The highest price I paid was $1.46 per liter. Or $5.68 per gallon.

RE: fuzion 403 with Dodge Ram 3500 Mega Cab 6.7 Diesel

For what its worth...I had a 2004 2500 4x4 Short bed Cummings Larmie Quad SB w/ Toyo AT 33", 18" rims, auto rear airbags, towing a KZ 41' Toyhauler, dry hitch pin wgt 3200# trailer GW 18K #...Truck was great never had a problem, but I didn't feel comfortable in the mtns. Decided to traded in a purchased a 2008 3500 Dually 4x4 6.7 Dsl quad long bed...wow! what a difference. In my opinion if you are border line on towing wgt, traded up...of course if the bgt allows.
With the #'s Ran and others on here are telling of there pin and rear axle weights, we all are not talking apples to apples. All I know is the big KZ's (41 to 43 feet long) have alot of pin weight, as I'm sure the big Weekend Warriors do to. WAY to much for any single rear wheel truck stock. Yes Rickerson's and a set of larger calipers, rotors and airbags would do the trick just not a stock truck.

RE: costco VS Trojan Batteries

I bought mine from Allied Battery in Seattle. They had new batteries out of a totalled genie hi-lift that never went into service.

RE: fuzion 403 with Dodge Ram 3500 Mega Cab 6.7 Diesel

At the risk of sounding like a smart aleck, I have found that those who have duallies say that you need a dually, and those who have a SRW say that you're good to go with that set-up. Heck, that's just plain natural....we all spend a significant amount of our time justifying our actions.....human nature:)
This is not totally true. I had a SRW F-350 switched to a F-450 after tire blow outs and rims cracking. To each his own. Like I said before if someone ever got out of control running over loaded and could have helped it and hit my family God help them.

RE: 5er or Pull behind pro's and con's

If you take your TH off road you are going to come very close or even hit your TH. I have hit mine on my old set up and it was lifted. I have had to stop and back out or change directions cause the TH was coming to rest on the top of the bed.

RE: 5er or Pull behind pro's and con's

You can tavel faster with a TT or you can get better mileage with a TT. You also have a clear bed to haul something. That is about it for a TT.

RE: Diesel prices in Canada?

Check out http://www.mjervin.com/WPPS_Public.htm
It is usually more accurate than Gas Buddy. Diesel in Vancouver is $1.51/liter and Prince George will be higher than that. To convert to US$/gal, multiply by 3.97 (1.51 Can$/liter = 6.00 US$/gal)
Wow, 7 miles per gallon, $6.00 per gallon, 1200 miles sound like I'll be helping to pay some medical for our neighbors to the North.

I got my four Trojan's for $79.75 ea. and installed for $90.00 with cables but if the deal wasn't ava then Costco would have been my choice also.

RE: Diesel prices in Canada?

Thank you for the info. My credit card company started charging a percentage fee for every purchase out of the US. So this trip is a cash trip. A first for me. In the past I'd carry little cash and charge everything.

RE: 6v Battery setup help

Can I get away with having just 2 6v batteries. I see more and more people going with a 4 6v battery set up. Is the main reason to gain capacity when the generator isnt running?
Yes two will work just fine. There are some class C motor homes with just two.
But, It is like anything else in life some is good - more is better.

RE: Solar - RV Solar - Costco - Just finished the installation

Someone could buy that solar setup. Delete the generator option, save the $4-5 grand and buy four or more 6-volts and a 2500 watt inverter and be done. No Fuel, no noise on demand power without hooking up. Would save money.
